Information

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure in which the shape of the vagina is restored and tightened. The natural loosening of muscles and connective tissue that comes with age affects the female genitalia as well, and in women who have given birth vaginally, the changes are further compounded by the strain of delivery. Vaginoplasty firms and narrows the vagina, effectively rejuvenating it and returning it to its pre-birth condition.

At GYN MEDICO, you are in the care of specialist doctors in aesthetic gynaecology who will ensure the highest level of comfort and discretion from your first consultation through to the final result.

When to consider vaginoplasty

Weakening of the vaginal walls following childbirth or with age can lead to reduced sensation during sexual intercourse, and in some cases to stress urinary incontinence. When these changes begin to affect a woman's physical wellbeing or quality of life, a surgical solution is well worth considering. Many women also choose vaginoplasty for purely aesthetic reasons, because the youthful appearance and feel of the intimate area matters to them.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure begins with a consultation during which you and your doctor discuss the current state of the vagina and your wishes regarding the changes you would like to make. Your doctor will then walk you through the options and propose the scope of the procedure to meet your expectations in terms of comfort and quality of intimate life going forward. You will receive full information about the procedure itself, as well as the anaesthesia and analgosedation used. Pre-operative examinations are required in advance, including a blood test and ECG. Any medications that affect blood clotting will need to be stopped in good time before the procedure, in line with your doctor's instructions.

The surgical procedure itself takes place in our procedure room and typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes. It is performed under a combination of local anaesthesia and general analgosedation. During the procedure, the surgeon removes excess tissue, including the necessary amount of muscle, and closes the interior of the vagina with dissolvable sutures.

Recovery

After the procedure, you will rest at the clinic before heading home. It is a good idea to bring someone with you on the day. Some discomfort in the treated area is normal in the first few days and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief if needed. Any mild swelling responds well to cooling. After the procedure, careful intimate hygiene is essential, and we recommend a rest period of approximately two weeks with no physical exertion or exercise. Sexual activity can be fully resumed around four weeks after the procedure.
