Information
Vaginal mucosal atrophy, often referred to as vaginal atrophy or genitourinary syndrome, is a condition in which the vaginal lining becomes thinner, drier and less elastic. It is caused by a decline in oestrogen levels, which is most common in women after menopause but can also occur following childbirth or in connection with certain hormonal changes. Women with vaginal atrophy typically experience burning, dryness, itching, painful intercourse (dyspareunia) or recurrent urinary tract infections. These symptoms can significantly affect quality of life, confidence and intimate relationships.
