Information

Urinary incontinence is the inability to control the leakage of urine, and it can significantly affect a woman's quality of life. It occurs in women of all ages and is often the result of weakened pelvic floor muscles. Incontinence can be caused by pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal changes after menopause, the natural ageing process or other health factors.

Degrees of incontinence

Incontinence presents in varying degrees of severity:

  • Mild incontinence (grade 1)
involves the leakage of a small amount of urine triggered by laughing, coughing, sneezing or exercise. This type is known as stress incontinence and is caused by increased pressure on the bladder.
  • Moderate incontinence (grade 2)
occurs during physical activity or with less strenuous exertion, such as running or lifting heavier objects. At this stage, leakage may be more frequent and the volume of urine greater.
  • Severe incontinence (grade 3)
involves involuntary leakage even at rest, for example when getting up from a chair or walking. This can be very disruptive to daily life and often requires more intensive treatment.

Laser treatment for incontinence

Laser therapy stimulates collagen production and tissue regeneration in the pelvic floor and urethra. This firms the tissue and increases support for the bladder, leading to improved control over urine leakage.

The procedure itself takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and is virtually painless. Local anaesthesia may be applied beforehand, but most women feel only a mild warmth or tingling sensation. The laser stimulates the deeper layers of the mucous membrane without damaging the surrounding tissue, which means recovery is quick.

Who is suitable for laser treatment?

Laser therapy is ideally suited to women with mild to moderate stress incontinence who are looking for an effective, non-surgical solution. It may also be a good option for women who want to prevent their symptoms from worsening and improve their quality of life.

The procedure can be performed at any time, provided the client is in good health and has no acute genital infections.

Results and recovery

Many women notice a significant improvement in bladder control and a reduction in leakage after just the first session. For the best results, a course of three sessions spaced several weeks apart is usually recommended.

Recovery is minimal. Most women can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and sexual intercourse for three to five days to allow the tissue to heal optimally. Thanks to the non-invasive nature of the treatment, the risk of side effects is very low.

To make the most of your treatment, we will be happy to recommend physiotherapy to help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles alongside the laser sessions.
