Information

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure on the labia minora in which we remove excess tissue and improve the symmetry of this area. It is a solution for women who are bothered by the size or appearance of their labia minora, both from an aesthetic and functional standpoint (chronic irritation, discomfort). This is an outpatient surgical procedure not covered by public health insurance. Our GYN MEDICO clinic features a state-of-the-art operating room, and our doctors have extensive experience in the field of plastic gynecology. They constantly monitor developments and trends to ensure your maximum comfort during the procedure and excellent results.

When to undergo labiaplasty

As the female body ages, so do the intimate areas. With age, skin elasticity decreases, and the labia also become saggy. The small labia become longer as they sag, which can lead to physical discomfort during sports, sexual activity, or even everyday movement. Even in less extreme cases, however, a woman may be dissatisfied with the size or shape of her labia, and in such cases, it is appropriate to consider plastic surgery. The client’s individual feelings and wishes play the primary role here.

How the procedure is performed

The procedure is preceded by a consultation with a doctor and a preoperative examination. The doctor will discuss the necessary scope of the surgery with you in detail, explain the course of the procedure and recovery, and discuss your options for anesthesia and analgesia during the procedure. The preoperative examination includes an ECG and blood tests. At least one week before the procedure, you must stop taking medications containing substances that increase bleeding—especially acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpyrin, Aspirin, etc.).

The best time for the procedure is after your menstrual period has ended. The procedure takes place in our operating room, and the patient is sedated using a combination of local anesthesia and analgosedation. This means that we will first numb the external genital area with an injection of the active substance and then administer analgosedation via inhalation of gases that reduce sensitivity to pain. Once the sedation takes effect, we mark the incision line and then make the incision to remove the excess tissue. We close the wound after the procedure with absorbable sutures.

Recovery after labiaplasty

After the procedure, we will allow you to rest at the clinic; you may then go home, ideally accompanied by someone. You must rest for one week following the surgery. During the healing process, you should cover the labia with sterile gauze after each shower. The incision may bleed slightly at first. Normal swelling and bruising will subside within 10 days after the procedure. The sutures are absorbable, so there is no need to have them removed. You can resume your normal sexual activity and sports activities approximately four weeks after the surgery.
