How is infertility treated

At GYN MEDICO, we work in close collaboration with the Prague Fertility Centre (PFC) to provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for couples experiencing infertility, as well as for couples with a history of recurrent miscarriage. You can rely on our highly informed doctors, who continually develop their expertise and stay up to date with the latest advances and trends in infertility treatment. The majority of fertility-related examinations are carried out directly at our clinic.

When is a couple considered infertile?

A couple is considered infertile when pregnancy has not occurred despite regular unprotected intercourse over the course of one year. In English-speaking medical practice, infertility also encompasses situations where a woman is able to conceive but is unable to carry a pregnancy to term. According to current statistics, infertility affects approximately 15% of couples, and this figure continues to rise gradually, particularly in developed Western countries.

Specialist examinations

Modern medicine offers a wide range of diagnostic methods for identifying the causes of infertility. The first step is usually an analysis of the male partner's semen. A spermiogram assesses sperm count and motility, sperm morphology, and the volume, appearance and pH of the ejaculate. If the semen analysis is within normal range, the focus shifts to examining the female partner.

The core examinations used to identify the causes of infertility and determine the most appropriate treatment include fallopian tube patency testing and folliculometry. Fallopian tube abnormalities account for up to 40% of cases of reduced fertility in women, which is why tubal patency testing is typically the first diagnostic step. It is a straightforward outpatient ultrasound examination using the ExEm Foam Kit. Folliculometry is another ultrasound-based examination used to assess the state of follicles in the ovaries and predict the course of ovulation.

We also carry out further examinations focused on hormone levels that influence conception. A hormonal profile assessment evaluates your hormonal balance and identifies any irregularities that may be affecting fertility. AMH testing, which measures your individual ovarian reserve, is particularly important if you are considering assisted reproduction — AMH values are used to predict the ovarian response to hormonal stimulation.
