Information

Genital warts, known medically as condylomata, are benign growths on the skin and mucous membranes of the genital area. They are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is responsible for the vast majority of these growths. Genital warts can be uncomfortable, itchy and sometimes painful, but they are not directly associated with a risk of cancer.

Who is a good candidate for genital wart removal?

This procedure is suitable for women who have visible warts in the genital area and wish to have them removed for aesthetic, health or practical reasons. We particularly recommend it when the warts are causing bothersome symptoms such as itching or pain, or when they keep recurring despite other forms of treatment. In some cases, removal may also be recommended during pregnancy if the warts pose a risk to the progress of delivery.

How is genital wart removal performed?

At GYN MEDICO, we use laser treatment to remove genital warts.

Laser removal is one of the most effective methods available. A specialist laser allows precise targeting of the growths without damaging the surrounding tissue. Before the procedure, a local anaesthetic cream or spray is applied to numb the area so that there is no pain during treatment.

The procedure itself is quick, taking just a few minutes depending on the number and size of the warts. The laser beam effectively removes the growths while simultaneously sealing the small blood vessels, which minimises bleeding. The method is gentle, fast and carries a minimal risk of scarring.

What is the result and how is the recovery process going?

Results are visible immediately after the procedure. The treated area may be slightly red and sensitive for a short while, but most women recover quickly. We recommend avoiding sexual intercourse and strenuous physical activity for one to two weeks. Full healing typically takes two to three weeks.

It is important to follow your doctor's hygiene instructions after the procedure to reduce the risk of infection. Laser removal has a high success rate, but in some women the warts may return, particularly if the body is still carrying the HPV virus.
