First Aid for Children Course

Why is first aid important?

Learn how to respond confidently in situations that can happen to any parent. This hands-on course will guide you through how to recognise danger, prevent accidents and, when it matters most, provide effective first aid to children — from falls and burns to choking and resuscitation for both infants and older children.

What you will learn:

• How to prevent accidents at home and outdoors.
• First aid for bleeding, burns, poisoning and choking.
• How to respond to fever, febrile seizures and allergic reactions.
• The basics of resuscitation for children under and over one year of age.

Accident prevention at home and outdoors

You will learn how to make your home safer and how to teach children to stay safe outside — whether cycling, crossing the road or interacting with animals. You will come away with the confidence to handle bleeding, burns, head injuries, fever, febrile seizures and allergic reactions. You will also learn to recognise warning signs early and know exactly when and how to contact the emergency services.

Child resuscitation by age

The course also covers the basics of child resuscitation, including the key differences between technique for infants and older children. The course is led in a clear, practical way with no unnecessary theory. It is open to parents, grandparents and anyone who looks after children — at home, in nurseries or in after-school activities.

The course is divided into two sessions, each lasting 1.5 to 2 hours. It is run on an individual basis for a maximum of two participants.
